Have you seen Father of the Bride? It is a sweet movie in which a Dad (Steve Martin) reflects back on how quickly his little girl grew up and is suddenly a bride-to-be. In the movie, he and his daughter, 'Annie,' spent much time over the years bonding while playing basketball in the driveway. A few weeks before we moved into our new house Ben told me that he could see he and Annie playing basketball in the new driveway. I immediately thought of the movie and became emotional just thinking of our own 'basketball scenes' and how quickly, too, our Annie will grow.
Ben and Annie don't need basketball to bond, as they already have an amazing and precious relationship--still, I knew this could be a lot of fun for our family. So for Father's Day, Annie gave Ben this 'starter hoop' and a card to pick his own big size backboard/hoop. We had lots of fun trying it out- playing pig and high-fiving each other. Annie missed her first shot and said, 'Shoot!' in a Daddy-watching-sports type of way- ha ha! She also yelled 'Nice!' a lot and did a lot of over the head clapping. When Ben started really getting into the game, she bent over laughing and said, 'Daddy's a funny guy!'
Later in the day we went to our neighborhood pool for a swim and grill-out. It was a great day spent together, celebrating the wonderful 'Daddy' of our family. You are the best, Benny-- We love you, appreciate you, and respect you for the fantastic father that you are. Go Daddy, Go Daddy, Go!!
